Welcome to A Walk in the Park
Tuesday, March 09 2010 @ 11:09 PM GMT About Victoria
*Inspire*Create*Contribute* Welcome to A Walk in The Park! Time to get a breath of fresh air into those lungs! And what of me? Well, here I am: 21 years old, and a photography major at the New Hampshire Institute of Art. I've been taking pictures since seventh grade, about 1998. I have a penchant for stumbling on interesting things to document. I suppose the "found object" is a good way of describing what I'm after. I also enjoy photogrpahing urban landscapes and architecture. I also enjoy making semi-abstract images. I started with black and white photography, but now I've branched out into doing some color photography as well. Some awards and honors I've recieved include a sliver key and a gold key portfolio at the state level in the Scholastic Art Awards. Two of my photographs were published in high school literary magazine Obessive Image, and one was featured on the title page. I submitted two works for the soup kitchen benefit sale at the Plastic Camera Studio. I also got four works accepted into last year's annual Student Exhibition at the Institute. Why The Name? I was wondering if I should leave people questioning the meaning behind the name of the site. I decided that it would be more satisfactory to explain. First of all, the name just came to me. These things do. When I think of a walk in the park, I think of a sterotypical sunny day in spring or summer. Well, it occured to me, what about a park at night, at about the turn of the last century? It seemed a good idea. Also, the whole concept might get people to think of ideas, mundane things, and everything in a different way. That's what I hope to do; to help people see that the everyday doesn't have to be mundane. It has been said that a miracle is a change in perception. It seems almost every week I'm evolving and learning new ways to see things. This site is a celebration of my vision (way of seeing) so far. I know that my growth will never stop, so my exploration in photography won't either. A second meaning is the fact that I refuse to believe that life has to be hard, or a negative experience. Hence, I want my life to be a walk in the park.
