Philip Glass' Akhnaten

I love the music to this opera, although I haven't seen the opera itself. I would like to some day, but I think the music is more than capable of standing by itself. I couldn't resist including some of the lyrics from this epic opera. Philip Glass has said that this opera was the tragic one of the three 'portrait operas' (Einstein on the Beach, Satyagraha, and Akhnaten). Basically, it depicts Akhnaten's reign and collapse of the empire. This time in Egyptian history was unique in that the whole kingdom was united under worship of one god, the Aten. This god was depicted as the sun with rays coming off in all directions. Each ray had a hand attached. After Akhnaten's reign, the old pantheon of gods was established again. This soundtrack has inspired me with its mysterious and ancient quality. But don't take my word for it! :) Give it a listen yourself.

Doctor Who

I remember growing up watching PBS. The one show that I remember and still enjoy to this day is Doctor Who. The only problem was that the station mangement seemed to think it was fun to play the same ten episodes over and over. I sometimes wonder if this show emphacized my fascination with time.

Peaceful Warrior

After seeing this movie, I realized I wasn't really living. It's quite inspirational and deserves to be seen.

Yeh Tara Woh Tara (This Star, That Star, Every Star)

This is the second song. It's about unity, and peace of course. So inspiring! The video is great, and makes the music way better. I highly recomend watching it.

Yuhi Chala Chal Rahi (Keep roaming thus, o traveler)

I really love these lyrics to Yuhi Chala Chal Rahi from the movie Swades. I'll post song lyrics to another great song from this movie shortly. Reminds me of Girl Scout camp when we were all out biking around VT for three days. That was great...like another world. It's a good song about life, and a good travel song. Enjoy!

P.S. Here's a link to the YouTube clip of the full song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNz4SRRnvpU
There's even English subtitles for this one!
